Sugar Sweet Scrub

This is a basic body scrub that can be used as is, or customized with any kind of scent you would like. The coarse sugars are very exfoliating and the oil leaves your skin silky soft. This makes a great gift, too. I don’t know that there is really a shelf life for this scrub, but I find it maintains its best quality if used within the first two months. A list of great oil combinations are listed below the recipe.

Ingredients & Supplies

  • 1 pint Mason jar
  • 1 part brown sugar**
  • 1 part raw sugar**
  • 1-2 parts oil (any mild, unscented oil like almond oil, EVOO, etc.)
  • Essential oils (optional)
  • 4 tbsp Honey (optional)
  • Herbs/spices (optional)

**Regular granulated sugar and/or sea salt can be substituted if necessary.

Directions

  • Blend sugars in container.
  • Add oil until sugars are moistened, but not soaked. There should be no standing oil, so add more sugar if necessary.
  • Stir in any oils, herbs or honey.**

**Notes

  • If adding honey, be careful not to overdo it or your scrub will leave your skin sticky.
  • Oils vary in strength, so add in a little at a time, stir it in, and test the scent. Continue until you reach the intensity you are looking for.

Almondlicious Locks

This is a basic mix that both smells wonderful and does wondrous things to your hair. Almond oil is a light oil that deeply nourishes and moisturizes the hair, adds lots of shine, helps strength hair, and some say it can also control hair loss and stimulate growth. At the bottom, I have included optional mixtures for different scents/uses.

Ingredients & Supplies

  • ½ cup almond oil
  • 6 tsp vanilla extract (for scent)
  • 1 cup or larger Mason jar

Directions

Mix oils in small Mason jar.

Uses

  • Use in small amount (1 tsp or so) and rub into wet hair evenly as a serum before styling. Although it is light, use sparingly to avoid greasy hair.
  • Use a larger amount and rub into wet hair evenly. Cover with a cap and leave in for 15-30 minutes for conditioning treatment. For deep conditioning, leave for several hours.
  • Pour very small amount in the palm of your hand and rub together. Run hands lightly over surface of hair to give extra shine.

Notes

  • Mixture can be saved for months, with occasional stirring as oils separate.
  • Oils vary in strength, so add in a little at a time, stir it in, and test the scent. Continue until you reach the intensity you are looking for.

Avocado Honey Hair Mask

This mask is wonderful for hair that is gotten dry and damaged, whether from sun, hard water, or over-processing. Honey is a humectant, attracting and retaining moisture. Avocado contains light oils that not only repair damaged hair, but contain a variety of nutrients and proteins that help smooth flyaway hair. Olive oil loosens the mixture enough to allow it to spread more easily, but it also adds shine and helps smooth, repairs, and strengthen hair. Sour cream (or egg yolks or mayo) are very hydrating as well.

Ingredients & Supplies

  • ½ cup honey
  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1-2 tbsp sour cream (egg yolks or mayo)
  • ½ mashed avocado

Directions

Mix ingredients in small bowl.

Use

Massage mixture into damp hair and cover with cap. Let sit 15 minutes to an hour.  Use weekly.

Deep Conditioning Oil

This oil is made up of 4 different oils: almond, castor, olive, and coconut. Each one does wonderful, and different, things to the hair. At the bottom, I have included optional mixtures for different scents

  • Almond oil: deeply nourishes/moisturizes the hair, adds shine, helps strengthen hair
  • Castor oil: makes hair thicker/stronger
  • Olive oil: adds shine, smooths/repairs/strengthens hair
  • Coconut oil: nourishes/moisturizes hair

Ingredients & Supplies

  • ½ cup each olive, almond, coconut oils
  • ¼ cup castor oil
  • 1 pint Mason jar

Directions

Mix oils in small Mason jar.

Use

Use enough to thoroughly saturate the hair. Rub into wet hair evenly. Cover with a cap and leave in for leave for several hours.

Notes

  • Mixture can be saved for months, with occasional stirring as oils separate.
  • Oils vary in strength, so add in a little at a time, stir it in, and test the scent. Continue until you reach the intensity you are looking for.
